Peptides researched for skin, hair & pigmentation

Topical GHK-Cu is a legitimate cosmetic ingredient with small controlled trials behind it. Everything beyond that — injectable copper peptide, melanotan II for tanning — is either unstudied or subject to explicit FDA warnings, and the approved tanning-pathway drug, afamelanotide, is restricted to a rare genetic disease.

02 — What is being studied

The research field, in plain terms.

Two distinct fields sit under one heading. Dermal matrix research studies copper tripeptide applied topically, with endpoints such as collagen density, wrinkle depth and photodamage measured in small controlled cosmetic trials. Pigmentation research studies melanocortin receptor agonists, where the measurable endpoint is melanin density and, in the approved case of afamelanotide, pain-free light exposure in erythropoietic protoporphyria.

The claims that travel furthest are the ones with the least behind them: systemic anti-aging from injected copper peptide, and hair regrowth. Neither has controlled human data. Melanotan II is not approved in any jurisdiction and has an adverse-event record including changing moles, nausea and reports of melanoma, which is why regulators have issued direct consumer warnings rather than reviewing it for compounding.
